Generally speaking the best time to transplant roses is at a time when they are at their most dormant.

At the end of the winter season is the most dormant time in Northern climates, in warmer climates transplanting roses is better in late autumn or early winter.

If the roots of your rose tree are exposed then transplanting can take place anytime as long as the temperatures at the time are above freezing point, however, if your rose tree roots are exposed then Spring is actually the best time if possible to transplant the tree.

If you attempt to transplant a rose tree at 10 degrees below freezing your tree will not survive.

If you do carry out the transplant before the natural growing season there are a couple of tips you should adhere to.

Ensure the day before you are transplanting your rose tree that you thoroughly soak the roots to help protect them.

Make sure you prepare the ground you are moving your trees to and know that there will be enough light in that area of the garden to benefit the growth of your tree, nourish the ground with fertilser.

Once you dig the roots of your rose tree out of the ground transplant the tree immediately, the roots hate to be exposed directly to sunlight or dry air.
