Shredding the leaves from trees will provide a natural source of carbon for worms allowing them to do their job. The only leaves that should not be used are live oak tree leaves and magnolia trees due to their high acidic value which is poisonous to worms.
When starting out with your compost bin place around one pound of works 6-8 inches beneath the soil before placing your organic material on top and keep the lid on the container. After a two to three day period you will create a fantastic compost to begin adding to your soil for fertilisation.
The more worms you have the better for the production of compost.
